Creative Indian pianist/ composer, Utsav Lal is internationally recognized for creating a unique voice on the piano with his innovative handling of Indian Classical Music. Acclaimed for his groundbreaking work, Lal’s impressive career includes headlining performances at global venues like Carnegie Hall-NYC, Southbank Centre-London, Kennedy Center-Washington DC, Steinway Hall-New York and others.

Known for his deeply personal and expressive playing, The Irish Times describes Lal as “a fleet-fingered performer whose best moments can be both highly evocative and dazzling”.  Treading the line between an ancient tradition and an innate desire for innovation, Lal’s unfailing clarity of technique & rhythmic virtuosity creates music that has a powerful intensity and is known for its sincerity, simplicity and depth.

Nominated as Young Steinway Artist (2010), winner of  TiE Aspire Young Indian Achiever (2012) and Yamaha Jazz Scholar (2014), Lal’s work is profoundly influenced by Indian Classical Music and blends his varied musical experiences, whilst drawing additional strength from myriad jazz and post-modern concepts. Often known as the ‘Raga & Jazz Pianist’, Lal is respected for his collaborative work with well-known musicians like Martin Hayes & Dennis Cahill, Rajna Swaminathan, Jarlath Henderson. Debut album ‘Piano Moods of Indian Ragas” Times Music (2008), Lal has six subsequent records which include a historic one-of-its kind solo album on the world’s first 'Fluid Piano’, released by Fluid Piano Tuning label (2016).
